Toyota tops Ireland’s best selling car brand for July

Toyota Ireland has placed in top position for July car sales holding a 12.8% share of the market according to registrations numbers from the SIMI. Toyota has sold 11,203 vehicles over the past 7 months of 2019, with 3,152 of these sold in July alone.

The rise in sales follows the addition of four new generation self-charging hybrid models to the Irish market, with strong sales across the RAV4, Corolla Hatchback, Corolla Touring Sport, Camry. The C-HR, Yaris and Prius models also continued to be very popular.

In addition to taking the top spot for overall car sales in July, Toyota’s Corolla continues to be the best-selling car in the Irish market for 2019. Launched into the Irish market in early 2019 with a completely new design both inside and out, the Corolla has proved its ability to win both the hearts and minds of the car buying public with 4,037 models sold so far this year, 87% of which are self-charging hybrids.

Steve Tormey, CEO of Toyota Ireland commented:

“We are delighted Toyota has taken the number one position of top selling car brand and model for July. With renewed interest from consumers in more sustainable and environmentally friendly motoring off the back of the Government’s Climate Action Plan, demand for our hybrid models (which drive in zero emissions mode up to 62%* of the time) are at an all-time high.

SIMIs figures also show the continued demise of diesel as Irish drivers move towards more electrified motoring solutions such as self-charging hybrids. At Toyota we have positioned ourselves as the driving force of this change as in Ireland, with 80% of all Toyota cars sold being self-charging hybrid.”
