Electric power: your questions answered
Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles incorporate similar technology – but with a key difference. Both switch seamlessly between two power sources, an efficient petrol engine and a Hybrid drive battery, but Plug-in Hybrid vehicles feature a bigger, rechargeable drive battery for greater performance together with true EV capability. That’s why the Plug-in Hybrid charges with a plug. The Hybrid vehicle does not need to be plugged in.
The Toyota C-HR Plug-in Hybrid can travel exclusively in electric mode for up to around 66km* – emission free. Should the battery run low on charge during a longer journey, your vehicle switches back to operating as a Hybrid car, combining petrol and regenerated battery power to get you safely to your destination – no hassle, complete peace of mind. * All figures shown are provisional, pending final WLTP homologation.
You can recharge a Plug-in Hybrid from a domestic power supply (10A) in approximately 6.5 hours, making overnight charging convenient and, in many cases, economical. For optimum speed and safety, the combination of a dedicated cable and wall box unit will return a full charge in around 2.5 hours.
Plug-in Hybrids are economical to own. With a fully charged battery, a Plug-in Hybrid can travel up to 100km* on as little as one litre of fuel. The low CO2 emissions of Plug-in Hybrids often result in road and company car tax discounts. And due to less wear to parts like brake pads and discs, they can be cheaper to maintain too. *Real World range can vary depending on several factors, including the accessories fitted (pre & post-registration), driving style, conditions, speed and vehicle load.
Toyota Plug-in Hybrid batteries are engineered to last for the lifetime of the car. For added peace of mind, every battery comes with a five-year/100,000 km* warranty which – with an annual Hybrid Health Check – extends battery cover for up to 15yrs/unlimited mileage Hybrid Battery Cover once serviced with a Toyota Dealer. When a battery reaches the end of its life, Toyota’s take-back scheme ensures it is dealt with safely and responsibly. *Whichever occurs sooner
