Toyota vision and philosophy

Our fundamental values
Our business has a proud history and an exciting future. Both are built on the fundamental values of respect for people and continuous improvement. We use these qualities to secure our vision for creating safe and responsible future mobility for all that generates happiness for all.
  • Our Mission: Happiness for All

Our Chairman, Akio Toyoda, has gone on record to say that our business should move beyond manufacturing vehicles to producing “Happiness for All”. In the automobile industry, technologies such as electrification and connected, automated driving are making significant progress. Toyota remains committed to making ever-better cars. Just as important, we are developing mobility solutions to help everyone enjoy their lives. In these ways we are doing our part to create an improved society for the next 100 years and beyond.

  • Our Vision: Creating Mobility for All

In a diverse and uncertain world, Toyota strives to raise the quality and availability of mobility. We wish to create new possibilities for all humankind and support a sustainable relationship with our planet.

  • Our way forward

Since Toyota’s foundation we have acted in accordance with our Philosophy and Guiding Principles to provide reliable products and support the sustainable development of society. The Toyota Way is our simple framework for applying Toyota’s Guiding Principles and building the kind of company we want to be. Through TPS, Toyota's renowned production system, we work according to an original manufacturing philosophy that aims to eliminate waste and achieve the best possible efficiency.

  • Toyota Philosophy

Our Toyota Philosophy has guided us to where we are today and will further do so in our transition to a mobility company. This way of working makes a valuable contribution to our mission of mass-producing happiness.

  • Our Guiding Principles

Our Guiding Principles have long been a foundation for the way we manage our business. First drawn up when our business was started in 1937 and updated in 1997, they remain at the heart of our management philosophy.

  • The Toyota Way

The Toyota Way uses our guiding principles to define a way of working for everyone in our business, everywhere. The auto industry is experiencing a once-in-a-century transformation. In the past, Toyota transitioned from loom maker to automaker. We are now reinventing ourselves as a mobility company.

  • Toyota Production System

The way we make vehicles is defined by the Toyota Production System (TPS). It is an original manufacturing philosophy that aims to eliminate waste and achieve the best possible efficiency – what is often called a “lean” or “Just-In-Time” system.
