Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid cars incorporate very similar technology. A Toyota Hybrid switches seamlessly between two power sources, an efficient petrol engine and a self-charging Hybrid battery.

Plug-in Hybrids are the same but feature a higher capacity battery. Instead, this is charged from an external electricity source, such as a domestic socket or dedicated wallbox, meaning they generally deliver greater performance and run in electric mode for longer, even as far as 75 km. After that, they switch back to operate like a Hybrid car.
