Euro NCAP’s safety rating system is designed to help consumers, families and businesses compare vehicles easily and identify the safest choice for their needs. Designed and carried out by Euro NCAP, the safety rating is determined by a series of vehicle tests aimed to simulate real-life accident scenarios which could result in injuries or fatalities of the occupants or other road users.

The programme is composed of four areas - Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian Protection and, since 2009, Safety Assist. Safety Assist includes accident avoidance and injury-mitigating functions, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, Electronic Stability Control and a speed limiter.

The new Avensis scored an outstanding 93% for Adult Occupant protection, 85% for Child Occupant, 78% for Pedestrian and 81% for Safety Assist. The new Avensis also achieved a maximum score for the side barrier impact, with good protection for all critical body areas.
