See what the motoring press had to say about the new Avensis

Smooth transition for new Avensis - Michael Moroney, The Farmers Journal

On the inside there are obvious design changes to give the car a more luxurious feel. The dash remains black with a softer touch and a large eight inch touch screen on models from the Luna specification upwards. The big news comes with a new 1.6-litre entry level turbo diesel engine that's a smooth to drive and impressively quiet. Toyota has raised the bar in terms of safety by fitting the new Toyota Safety Sense system to all models in the Avensis rage. The overall feel in the new Avensis is one of improved quality. The car performs very well and I found that the handling was smooth and flawless.

Avensis gets new competitive edge - Declan Colley, Irish Examiner

In fairness, there are those new BMW engines, a really neat new look, much better driving characteristics thanks to suspension revisions, a suite of new safety features, a raft of new kit and a completely new interior, all of which do combine to give the Avensis a new level of competitiveness. Their claim of a premium feel throughout is not an idle boast or that the new Avensis offers a smooth, quieter drive. Both of these claims were evident during the test drive.

Toyota Avensis gets a whole new look - Dave Humphreys, Sunday Business Post

The new style brings much more fluidity to the overall design, as do the re-profiled lower door and sill sections. The overall quality of the cabin has improved especially in the look and feel of the plastics and other materials used. The first thing you notice from sitting into the driver's seat is its comfort. Now more bolstered and with a redesigned base to make longer journeys more comfortable, the Avensis already feels like a better car.

The interior has been given a fairly extensive makeover - Donal Byrne, The Irish Times

While the sides of the new car look familiar, its front and rear have been sharpened, and the result is impressive. The interior has been given a fairly extensive makeover, and the car gets newly designed seats – more than a minor improvement. The improved suspension also makes a big difference to the car. All cars in the three grade offerings now get a pre-collision system as standard. This uses a laser and a camera to detect other vehicles in front; it then issues audio and visual warnings.

Takes all the worry out of driving so you can enjoy the ride - Cars Ireland

A dynamic new makeover. Lots of soft touch materials, elegant chrome trim and a new touch screen infotainment system. On the road it's comfortable and refined. It comes with Toyota Safety Sense and takes all the worry out of driving so you can enjoy the ride.
