Stop & Start System

The adoption of the Toyota Stop and Stop system for the new 1.33L 1NR-FE engine is aimed at breaking new ground in this environmentally conscious era.

The engine will stop and restart the engine through the driver operations when the stop and start conditions including safety aspects are met.

The system requires no particular input from the driver except the normal driving operations, helping increase the frequency of idling stop.

The startup quietness has been enhanced, compared to the conventional system.

The battery for the "TOYOTA Stop & Start system" models has been optimised to enhance durability. In addition, battery management is also incorporated in order to prevent resetting of ECU at engine restart and to ensure uninterrupted operation of the meters, audio, and navigation systems due to voltage shortage.

The "Permanently engaged gear mechanism" that highly differs from conventional starter mechanisms constantly engages the pinion gear of the starter motor and the ring gear on the engine side to realize a reduction in noise and startup time when the engine restarts.
