My Toyota is Your Toyota

I come of age this year as a driver of Toyota cars and as is the case with most people when they take a glance backwards it seems like yesterday since I drove my first Toyota. It was an 89 D maroon-coloured Carina and at a very early stage it converted me to the 'Brand'. Maybe that was the reason why it clocked up over 350,000 miles before I allowed it to go into retirement while still anxious for 'more road'.

I like to believe that my current Toyota is a successor in direct line to that Carina; it is an 10 D Avensis D4D Strata Model and it has ’seen’ hundreds of matches and other events in it's meander all over the country.

What I like most about it is its utter dependability so much so that I almost take that aspect for granted. It wakes up with ease in the morning and the word 'sluggish' never applies to it. It's morning mood reminds me sometimes of the late Paul Russell, holder of six All-Ireland medals with Kerry who was later involved in training, coaching etc. When asked once about the type of player he preferred he responded as follows --- 'you can always expect something special from one who rises early in the morning and bursts into song soon afterwards'.

That how my Strata behaves; it always seems to be anxious to respond to requirements of the moment and very little is ever needed in the line of repairs or replacement parts. I have got used to McCoy's the dealers stating after a regular service that my Toyota was in the usual perfect state of health. That gives an added degree of comfort every time I sit into it.
